Ingredients:

- 1 cup Tur dal
- ½ cup mung dal
- ½ cup masoor dal
- 3 tbsp channa dal
- 7 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- ¾ tsp cumin seeds
- 5 slit green chillies
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 ½ medium chopped onion
- 2 medium chopped tomatoes
- ½ tsp hing (asafetida)
- 1 or 2 sprigs curry leaves (handful)
- 1 tsp crushed ginger (Optional)
- 1 tsp crushed garlic (Optional)
Direction to cook:
- Wash all the dals and keep it aside
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and let it splutter
- Now add cumin seed and stir the mix. Immediately add chopped onions so that the cumin seeds and mustard seeds does not get burnt. Stir the mixture again.
- Now you can add green chillies and let it fry for a minute
- Now add crushed garlic and ginger and let it fry for a minute after stirring
- Add asafetida, curry leaves and turmeric powder and stir the mixture,
- After a minutes add tomatoes and stir again
- Once the tomatoes have melted, add the washed dal and stir the mixture
- Add enough water that it is slightly above the dal mixture in the pan
- Pressure cook till the dal is soft as per your desire
- I like my dal to be super soft and so I allow upto 4 whistles in the cooker. Also every cooker is different so you can give around 3 whistles first and after removing the pressure you can check to see if it has reached your desired consistency. If not, allow it to pressure cook for another 2 whistles.
- Your mixed dal is now ready
Enjoy with rice or flat bread or naan.
