LFL # 11 -> Respect Your Body

LFL - 11

About three months ago, I was attending a party and it was about 10 PM and time for dinner. One of our family friends served himself dinner and he looked at my plate. He asked me, “Are you on a diet?”

I replied in the negative.

“Then, why such little food?” he asked, as there were few vegetables and only a portion of meat.

I said to him, “It’s quite late now and over the years, I have changed my eating habits and it has worked for me.”

Now, he was 10 years older than me and replied promptly, “That’s not required at this age for you.”

So, I smiled at him and said, “Do you cook rice?”

He said, “Yes.”

“There’s a certain ratio of rice to water that must be adhered to. Now, imagine you have more water than what’s required in the pot. What would happen? Or if you had more rice in the pot than it could handle? In the first instance, water would fight hard and spill over, and in the second instance; rice would suffocate with no room to breathe.

He smiled and nodded in agreement.

So, I said to him, “So, why would you treat your body any different?” Respect your body and it will treat you well. On the other hand, if you don’t take care, your body will fight against you.

I explained to him that I enjoyed my food but my preference was eating in smaller intervals with early dinners. That worked for me, but just as we are all unique, not one formula works for all.
